Bridges

If a single or multiple teeth have been removed or fallen out, a fixed or removable dental bridge is an effective solution to fill the gap. A bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth that are attached to surrounding crowns (abutments) or natural teeth literally “bridging” the gap. If missing teeth are not replaced the remaining teeth will shift, bite and speech problems may occur and the shape of your face may be altered.

Porcelain fixed bridges closely replicate the look and feel of natural teeth. The fixed bridge consists of a pontic (artificial tooth) that is secured between two dental crowns applied to the teeth on either side of the gap (retainer teeth). A fixed bridge can only be removed by a dentist. Just like your other teeth, they remain in place as you speak, eat and sleep.

It typically required two office visits to place the bridge. During the first office visit, the abutment teeth are prepared for the crowns and impressions are taken from which out dental lab will produce the bridge and crowns. During this visit your dentist will create a temporary crown and bridge. In approximately two weeks, your dentist will replace the temporary with the permanent bridge.
